I bought a 1998 Grand Cherokee Monday night. It has a 4.0 with auto trans and is fully loaded. I drove it home and have checked it over and everything works except for the rear wiper. I am getting ready to change the oil and filters and put in new plugs. I have a set of 31x10.5x15 AT tires on Cherokee wheels that I am going to see if they will work on it without lifting it for now. I can cut on it if I have to as I only paid $900.00 for it.

Hey Larry, my wife had a 95 GC with AT's and with the full time four wheel drive she went wherever she wanted to on the street.  Great on ice and snow.  We fitted it with Outland nerf bars, front and rear grills, nice rig!

Grands are awesome!  I had a '93 GC with the 5.2L and Full-time 4WD.  I put a 4.5" lift on it along with some 33" Super Swampers.  I had to trim the fenders quite a bit, but it was really great in the rocks and on the trails.  The coil springs at all 4 corners really made it flex nicely.

I put on new wiper blades, changed the oil and filter, air filter and spark-plugs today. Also put on the AT tires. They rub a little at full turn. Will adjust the stops. Took it for a long test drive and kept it in part-time 4-wheel drive with no problems. I am not sure what type of 4-wheel drive it is. It has 2WD, part-time, full-time and 4 low. Not bad for $900.00.

Nice looking rig!

You have the NP242 transfer case.  That's a very nice case.  It's much better than the full-time NV249 case used behind all of the V-8's in the Grands.  A lot of guys will ditch the 249 in favor of the 242.

Here's a good FAQ page for the GC's:

Ditto on the nice rig and the price. We have a 98 Durango with the NV 242 transfer case with 172,000 miles and it works great. Wish I had one in my TJ.
