Would like to hear some chatter on removing/replacing console in 2001 TJ, stick transmission. I know about the bolt in the beverage holder but I would like a few pointers from your experience before I start. Unsure what is under the Airbag switch for a hold down. Have owned this TJ 7 years and the shifter knob has always been upside down. Need some ideas on how to break it loose with minimal damage. I'm needing to replace the carpet. All ideas and comments accepted.

Since nobody else is brave enough to take a run at it (wimps) Maybe I can help.

I've removed and installed 3 different TJ trim level consoles and they were all different... I think it's a case of undo-what-you-can-find and feel-your-way.  Don't get aggressive about prying.  If it's still very tight then there's a bolt somewhere still on.

- The bottom of the compartment in the arm rest

- The back of the console.

With a stick I think I remember the "boot" at the bottom of the stock stick just has some sort of tension spring or rubber thing.  You basically just grab it and scrunch it in... but I wouldn't bet your console on it.

I think the stick knob label pops off ... but you need either a strong suction cup or a very fine pick to get under it without damanging the decal.   (I'm pretty sure that's how it came of in my '97 a while back) ... If so there is a screw under it.

Thanks Flexer,

One of these nice Saturday's when I'm feeling brave and have lots of time I try to remove the console.

I'll call it spring cleaning.
