Are shock boots necessary?  I see a lot of people running without them.  I want to take mine off b/c they are as ugly as sin, but I'd keep 'em on there if they really do some good.

Chunk em most off roaders do.  They trap mud in and usually end up tearing anyway.

I've heard pretty much the same thing...they're more for bling than anything else.

Mine held about 1/2 gallon of water in them...Good for refilling the radiator on a hot day...Thats about it.
